ODE TO THE HOME SELLER

Your house is perfection, a positive dazzle,
It took you two weeks and you’re worn to a frazzle.
You’ve patched up the drywall and hidden the leaks,
And hushed-up the living room floor where it squeaks.
The ad’s in the driftwood you’re hoping to sell,
Today is the day, and you wait for the bell
Then it begins-there’s a knock at the door,
A couple of men and behind them are more.
They’re coming in droves; it’s too good to be true
And you’re right; they are Real Estate men after you.
You boot them all out when the telephone rings,
It’s a Real Estate lady asking you things.
Next come the “lookers” who poke through your drawers,
Sneer at your colour scheme, track up your floors.
At last come the “Buyers” quite willing they say,
To move in tomorrow (if they don’t have to pay).
Or they’ll go get the cash, so consider it sold,
But they never come back, and you’re out in the cold.
What a day, you’re so weary, you crawl into bed.
You start dreading tomorrow and what lies ahead.
You try counting sheep, you give up and then-
Count the “Lookers”, the “Buyers”, and the Real Estate Men
